Absolutely amazing looking place. Are they really trees? (Not that I doubt Persian King, I've just never seen anything like these before).

These are cypress trees that have died due to salt water coming up to them many years ago. Only the stumps remain in very large numbers.

Neat capture, Pix, but sad to see. I've seen similar areas in my home state of Louisiana; the same intercoastal canal that proved to be a natural conduit for a huge Katrina-driven storm surge to get in and drown St. Bernard Parish on the east side of New Orleans, had years earlier allowed enough salt water into a previously fresh/brackish water area that an entire bald cypress ecology was destroyed.
